How to Have AI Find Your Strengths
When asked "What are your company's strengths?" surprisingly few business owners can answer immediately.
The longer someone has been in business, the less likely they are to answer. Both their technology and customer service become ordinary to them. They don't think of what they do every day as a strength. However, when creating a homepage or designing a flyer, you cannot escape from thisarticulating your strengths.
This time, I'll introduce a method to uncover your own (or your company's) strengths using AI.
The key point is to have AI ask questions rather than write content.
Why "Write This" Doesn't Work Well
Many of you have probably asked ChatGPT or Gemini to "write about our company's strengths."
What comes out is typically something like this.
"We offer dedicated, customer-focused service rooted in our local community."
Don't you think that could apply to any company and doesn't resonate with anyone? It's ordinary.
This isn't AI's fault—it's simply that you haven't provided enough information. AI doesn't know what's in your head. If you have it write without that knowledge, it can only fill in with generalities. It's a natural result.
Reverse Your Thinking. Make AI Your Interviewer
Changing just one instruction can dramatically change the outcome.
Instead of asking it to "write," try asking it to "ask questions."
Here's an example prompt.
You are an experienced business magazine interviewer. I run a 〇〇 business in 〇〇 Prefecture. To uncover the strengths and characteristics of my company that even I haven't noticed, please interview me. Ask one question per turn. Based on my answers, continue with deeper follow-up questions.
That's all there is to it. Just replace the business type and location with your own.
Then AI will ask you questions like these.
- What is the most memorable interaction with a customer you've had since opening?
- Has a customer ever come to you after having worked with a competitor? If so, how did they explain their reason?
- Is there something you've decided never to compromise on? Why is that?
- Have you ever received praise from a customer that surprised you?
That fourth question is the key.
Often, customers recognize value in aspects you consider insignificant. "Quick responses," "clear explanations," "willingly revising multiple times without complaint."What seems like normal behavior to you becomes a reason for customers to choose you. Strengths are usually found outside of yourself.
Your Answers Can Be Rough
When answering in an interview, you don't need to write polished sentences.
Just type out whatever comes to mind in conversational language. You can even use your smartphone's voice input to speak it out. In fact, AI tends to ask more substantive follow-up questions when you give unpolished, raw answers.
After about 30 minutes of back-and-forth Q&A, make this final request:
Based on my answers so far, please organize the strengths you think I have. Please also include specific episodes I mentioned.
This summary becomes material for your website's "Why Choose Us" section and profile copy. Because you've gone through multiple rounds of questions and answers, the resulting text will be completely different from what you'd get if you simply asked someone to "write it" from the start.
Tips for Improving Accuracy
When you provide materials, the quality of questions improves even further.
Google Business Profile reviews, customer surveys, thank-you emails you've received in the past. If you paste these at the beginning and tell AI to "ask questions based on these as well," it will dig deeper based on actual feedback. It becomes far more concrete than interviews based solely on self-reporting.
One important note:
AI is fundamentally good at giving compliments. It tends to praise every answer as "that's a wonderful strength." Check the facts behind whether the "strengths" that emerge are truly strengths. Are competitors saying the same things? Are there actual examples of customers choosing you for that reason? Only after confirming these points does a strength become something you can actually use in your messaging.
Summary
- Rather than having AI "write," have it "ask questions."
- Answers can be conversational and rough.
- Accuracy improves when you provide reviews and customer testimonials as material.
- Verify the facts behind emerged strengths before using them.
